The Great Art War Artists Exhibit


The Great Art War Artists Exhibit. The Friends of the Long Beach Island Library together with the Great John Mathis Chapter DAR are honored to host a special art exhibit during the month of February. This exhibit features a mix of art from 12 area artists that includes photography, oil paintings, pastel paintings, watercolors, and much more. All of the works unite around the theme of the 100th Anniversary of the End of WWI.



Artist include; Cathleen Engelsen - Historical Artist , Cathleen is an Ocean County native with a deep appreciation of New Jersey’s rich, historical background and its breath-taking coastal scenery. She paints in all medias – watercolor, acrylic and oil. She is the Recipient of the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award for Ocean County Art . Elizabeth Harrigle - lifelong resident of the LBI & Stafford Twp area. Subject Poppies, watercolor 12x16 Title - Remembering my great grandfather, Dr Frederick N Bunnell who was a medic in WW1. My mother told me he amputated limbs in the field. I can hardly imagine. In honor of his service, I named it after him. Paul Hartelius Subject - Victory Parade Triumph Arch at 24th St, NYC. Paul is an active member and past president of Pine Shores Art Association. He is a retired civil engineer, has been painting primarily in watercolor for over 40 years. Laura Maschal - lives and works on Long Beach Island. She is a photographer and a writer with an eye for nature and the other beings with whom we share the planet. Linda Ramsay - inspired by the natural environment as well as objects I find interesting to paint both from photographs and plein air. I am drawn to painting seascapes, local landmarks or icons of a community along with vintage bicycles; which have become a recurring theme. Capturing the light, gradation of colors, shadows and reflections on water, land and objects influence my paintings. Steve Miller - My paintings are inspired by my love of the outdoors. Growing up on LBI, Was always drawn to the beaches and the salt marshes. My Father Herb Miller taught me to paint and is an inspiration to me.

A special meet the artist on Saturday February 17th from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. along with a special presentation at 2:00 p.m., by Jeff Brown, AP United States History and Government teacher at Southern Regional High School.

All of the of the works are for sale and the artists are donating a percentage of their proceeds to the Great John Mathis Chapter and the Friends of the Long Beach Island Library.
